Per The Athletic, Brentford considered a stunning move to appoint Postecoglou after his Spurs exit. Tottenham sacked the Australian after a dire 17th-placed Premier League finish, although he gained an immense amount of credit among the fanbase, and potentially suitors, when he ended the club's 17-year trophy drought by winning the Europa League in Bilbao.

Brentford's director of football, Phil Giles, is reported to have held informal discussions with Postecoglou over a potential move to west London but the 59-year-old was not interviewed for the role, and the Bees instead appointed Keith Andrews, who previously worked as the club's set-piece coach.
