Jones scored a crucial third goal for England as they beat Greece 3-0 to go top of League B Group 2 in the Nations League. The Liverpool midfielder pulled off an audacious backheel finish after Morgan Gibbs-White shifted back a cross for the 23-year-old to latch on to, sending his effort into the far corner and past goalkeeper Odisseas Vlachodimos, who could only get a hand on the ball before it settled in the far corner. Fans on social media went wild for Jones' goal, which rounded off a fine performance from the Merseyside man in Athens.

@markgoldbridge was one of the first to praise Jones online, saying: "What a class goal that is by Curtis Jones. What a season he's having."
His positive words were followed by @TheEuropeanLad, who wasted no time explaining how good the Liverpool star's finish was. He posted: "3-0 England. CURTIS JONES MAKES IT THREE WITH A WONDERFUL FINISH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT WAS CLASS FROM THE LIVERPOOL STAR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Commentator @Guymowbray also pointed to the fact that Jones' goal was a reflection of the good season he is having, saying: "Curtis Jones fully deserves that. Sums up the season he’s having. He’s becoming a terrific player – from squad to standout."

And Tom Garratt had a message for the man himself, saying: "Curtis Jones you are some player lad."
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Jones' goal was crucial for England, who needed to beat Greece by at least two goals to put themselves in pole position to gain promotion to League A of the Nations League. Had they only maintained their 1-0 advantage built in the first half by Ollie Watkins, it would have been a shootout between the two sides in the final matches this weekend. With so many players out injured for the Three Lions, Liverpool's own grabbed his chance with both hands and will surely have turned the head of incoming boss Thomas Tuchel.
