Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa should re-ignite his interest in Peterborough’s Marcus Maddison, as the 25-year-old would be a perfect upgrade on Getafe-bound Samu Saiz.
What’s the situation?
Saiz will officially join the Spanish side when the winter transfer window opens on 1 January, but according to BBC Sport he has already returned to his home country and will remain there until the loan deal begins.
The attacking midfielder had played 21 times so far this season under Bielsa, scoring one goal and providing three assists as the Whites flew to the top of the Championship table, but Bielsa will now need to replace the 27-year-old if they are to stay there.
The Argentine boss could provide the Elland Road faithful with an upgrade on Saiz though with a move for Maddison, who is lighting up League One once again this season.
Assist machine
The Whites were heavily linked with the 25-year-old during the summer window, but a move never came about and Maddison was reintegrated into Steve Evans’ squad at London Road.
There is little doubt that he could play at a higher level though, and so far this season he has two goals and ten assists in all competitions. His overall stats with Posh are even more impressive though, as the Durham-born midfielder/attacker has 44 goals and 71 assists in 198 appearances.
The big criticism of Saiz was always that there was not enough quality in his end product, but the stats show that Maddison could erase all memory of the Spaniard at Elland Road if he is signed in January.
So, Leeds fans, would you like to see Bielsa make a move for the Peterborough playmaker in January? Have your say by voting in the poll below.
