Wayne Rooney is the man of the moment for Manchester United, having set his name in history by becoming the club’s all-time leading scorer with a stunning equaliser against Stoke City, his 250th for the Red Devils. That goal saw Rooney, who is also England’s all-time leading scorer, grab the headlines- but it wasn’t the only record that the long-serving club captain broke with his goal.
The strike against Stoke was his 88th in the Premier League away from home, a number which sees him surpass Alan Shearer to become the highest scorer in that capacity- which is further evidence of the striker’s world-class ability.
Unfortunately, the goal wasn’t enough to stop Manchester United dropping points and they could find themselves 14 points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea by end of play today, with the Blues clashing with Hull City.
Nevertheless, it’s a record that Rooney can be proud of and surpassing the great Sir Bobby Charlton is another factor that should give him immense pride.
