Denmark international Andreas Christensen joined Chelsea from Brondby in 2012, but the centre-back has only made three first-team appearances for the Premier League outfit, the last of which came during the 2014-15 campaign.
Indeed, the 21-year-old has spent the last two seasons on loan with Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach, scoring five times in 61 league appearances during an impressive spell in German football.
It is understood that the defender will return to Stamford Bridge for pre-season, although it is not yet clear whether Blues boss Antonio Conte sees Christensen as a first-team player for the 2017-18 season.
The powerful centre-back once again impressed for his country on Tuesday night as Denmark drew 1-1 with world champions Germany, and his performance in Brondby prompted a tweet from Chelsea’s official Twitter account.
The Blues have been linked with a number of new centre-backs this summer after John Terry’s departure, but the club’s supporters feel that Christensen could be the answer.
Conte, however, might well have other plans for the centre-back.
