BeIN sports football pundit Ruud Gullit dropped a hint that Carlo Ancelotti is on his way to Everton following the news of his sacking on Tuesday night.
What did he say?
The 57-year-old was in the studio when news filtered through that the former Chelsea boss had been sacked despite the Italian club beating Genk 4-0 to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League, and it was quickly discussed.
The Dutchman said when the studio was talking about Ancelotti departure: “Because he could go to Everton. I never thought he would do it. I really hope for the best because it’s a club that needs a lot of attention.”
On his way?
It’s difficult to say not knowing how close a relationship – if any – Gullit has with Ancelotti or people who may be in the know on the Italian’s next move, but he certainly seemed pretty sure with the comments he was making and having brought up Everton’s name in the first place.
Wishing him the best would suggest that a deal is already done or at least on the cards, and there’s little doubt that his appointment would have to be seen as an exciting one for Farhad Moshiri and Bill Kenwright.
Did he play for Everton? Simple question but a lot tougher than you think…
He may not have a long future ahead of him given he is 60 years of age, but he would surely bring some much-needed composure and stability to Goodison Park, as well as the ability to attract some high-quality players to Merseyside.
The experienced manager has one Premier League title, one Ligue 1 title, one Serie A title, one Bundesliga title and three Champions League titles to his name showing the wealth of knowledge and quality he has as a manager, and that would only stand Everton in good stead.
They certainly need it too, despite an impressive start for Duncan Ferguson in his first match in caretaker charge last weekend.
In other Everton news, Don Hutchison has urged the club to go and get one particular Premier League winning manager to succeed Marco Silva…
