Tottenham Hotspur right-back Kyle Walker-Peters shone during his side’s 5-0 win against Bournemouth on Boxing Day soon after the club was linked with a £15m move for Norwich City starlet Max Aarons.
The Sun reports that the north London outfit are keen to bring the 18-year-old Canaries starlet in following a brilliant breakthrough campaign for the teenager with the Championship high-flyers, but the right-back slot would surely be in need of some major work if any deal did materialise.
Mauricio Pochettino already has Walker-Peters, Kieran Trippier and Serge Aurier to pick from in that position, with the former the third-choice option when all of the trio are fit and raring to go.
However, he was handed a rare start and opportunity to impress against the Cherries with his teammate and England international on the substitutes’ bench following his start against Everton just three days earlier, and he made a big impact by creating three assists in the opening 35 minutes of play.
The long-term contract until 2023 that the 21-year-old signed in December proves that the club has faith in him, but surely one of Trippier or Aurier needs to go if he is ever going to get his chance – two of the three may even need to leave if they do get Aarons.
While Trippier has been a standout performer for Spurs and the Three Lions at times in 2018, he perhaps hasn’t been at his best so far this term, sometimes even drawing criticism from his own supporters on Twitter.
Given the options Pochettino has at his disposal both now and potentially in the future, now may be the ideal time to cash in on the 28-year-old while memories of his displays for Tottenham and his World Cup semi-final free-kick are still fresh in the memory.
We want Spurs fans to vote on our poll below to tell us whether they think selling Trippier would be a good business decision, or whether they need to keep him.
