Bringing in a new centre-forward is believed to be one of Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho’s main priorities in this summer’s transfer window.
According to a report, the Red Devils are making good progress in their pursuit of Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata, with the two teams currently locked in negotiations.
It is understood that Man United, who will play Champions League football next season after winning the Europa League, have seen a £52m offer rejected for the Spain international, although the 20-time English champions are confident of completing a deal.
Morata, 24, scored 20 times in all competitions for Real Madrid last season, including 15 times in La Liga, despite only starting 14 matches.
The future of experienced forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic remains uncertain, and Mourinho has seemingly identified Morata as the perfect player to boost his squad ahead of the 2017-18 campaign.
News that Man United were making good progress for Morata dropped early on Wednesday night, and the club’s supporters were out in their force to welcome the reports.
