Sheffield Wednesday have been handed a big boost regarding Florian Kamberi’s availability for their League One opener this evening.
What’s the latest?
That’s according to Joe Crann, with the Sheffield Star journalist revealing on Twitter that the centre-forward has received the international clearance required for Darren Moore to register the 26-year-old loanee in his first-team squad.
Crann added that the Albania international has duly been given the green light to feature for Wednesday in their trip to Charlton Athletic this evening, with it being up to Moore whether or not he includes the striker in his matchday squad.
In his tweet, the journalist said: “Led [to] believe that Florian Kamberi has gotten his international clearance and has been given the green light to make his SWFC debut. Now it’s up to Darren Moore whether he makes the trip to Charlton Athletic or not.”
Big boost
Although Kamberi arrived at Hillsborough before the club’s penalty shootout exit to Huddersfield Town in the first round of the Carabao Cup last Sunday, the centre-forward was unable to feature in the game due to the aforementioned missing paperwork.
With the Owls having struggled to break down the Terriers in the 0-0 draw prior to their penalty shootout defeat, it was clear that Moore’s side were in desperate need of greater attacking firepower in the game.
However, with the 26-year-old now seemingly free to play a role in the club’s opening league fixture of the season at The Valley on Saturday, Moore will undoubtedly be buzzing with the boost to his options in attack.
Furthermore, with Wednesday also confirming the signing of Lee Gregory on Thursday, the 47-year-old is now somewhat spoiled for choice ahead of the Charlton clash, with the manager having to make a tough call on who he would prefer to lead the Sheffield Wednesday line this weekend.
However, it is certain that this selection headache is much more favourable than the manager’s previous issue of having very little choice in the position, with Kamberi’s availability undoubtedly being a big boost for the Owls as they seek to make a winning start to a campaign which will hopefully end with promotion straight back to the Championship.
